Monument on Burgan Lot

A very beautiful monument has been placed in the lot of Mr. Burgan’s. It is a fine piece of work and adds greatly to the appearance of the cemetery.

Cemetery Improvements

$3,500 will be spent the coming summer, in improvements in and about Antietam National Cemetery. An addition will be put to the Lodge house, a large cistern for the convenience of visitors will be dug, a stable is to be erected and a concrete drive made. Trimming and pruning of the trees and shrubbery and sodding is now being one.

Hess Repairs Cemetery

Capt. Hess, Supt. Of Antietam National Cemetery, has succeeded in getting an appropriation of money for repairs and new buildings in the cemetery. Any one wishing to contract for the same will please call on Capt. Hess.

Owen Examines Road

W.H. Owen, a civil engineer in the employ of the U.S. Government, was here last week to examine the road that leads from the National Cemetery to Antietam station. Mr. Owen’s object was to find out the width of the road, the facilities for macadamizing it, etc. Representative McComas is endeavoring to get Congress to make an appropriation for the purpose of putting the road in first-class condition. The distance is about one mile.
