John Smith Exhibits Relics
Mr. John P. Smith, of our town, has on exhibition, in Mr. J.F. DeLauney’s store room, near the Public Square, a frame 20x24 inches, filled with 100 Indian arrow points of all shapes, color and sizes. Some from Powhatan’s hunting grounds at Jamestown, Va., others from Ohio, Pa. and Md. Besides arrow points, he has enclosed a tomahawk from old Fort Frederick, fragments of pottery of the Aztec Indians of New Mexico, and bones, teeth, beads and other ornaments excavated from the Indian Cave; on the banks of Antietam Creek, near Antietam Iron Works. The frame is composed of oak and walnut wood from the Dunkard woods and is ornamented with bullets and grape-shot from Antietam Battle-field and is quite a historical relic; contrasting vividly the past with the preset facilities for war.
